Smart & Flexible Automation Production Systems

About the research area

The Smart & Flexible Automation Production Systems research line aims at supporting the implementation of high-tech manufacturing processes based on the use of adaptive and smart manufacturing equipment and systems by means of the establishment of methodologies and the development of support tools using the latest technologies. The final goal is to automate, control and optimize the production processes ensuring plant availability while providing high quality production with zero defects. This is what initiatives as the Factory of the Future, Smart Manufacturing or Industry 4.0 initiatives pursue.

The main results include 8 PhDs, more than 25 papers in JCR indexed journals and more than 100 papers in international conferences. In general, the research line focuses on the use of modeling techniques as applied to the automation production systems sector developing methods and tools to support the development cycle. We are also applying intelligent techniques (Multi Agent Systems) to support zero defects and customized manufacturing.
